The Mental Ray Lighting Challenge #1: Twilight Sunday, July 6, 2008 |

"The Mental Ray Lighting Challenge - 01" has begun. The challenge here is to render this scene in "Twilight". More information on the theme can be found on Wiki.

You can download the scene files from here.

You can adjust the position of the camera or move objects as you see fit to create a great composition. You may change the geometry as needed to render the scene the way you want. Any shading, texturing, or compositing techniques are OK, using any software. But the renderer should be "Mental Ray".

Deadline:

The challenge ends on 05/08/08. Send us your final high-res images before the end date at lightingchallenge@gmail.com, to be eligible for the initial gallery selection. All the final entries will be posted here on the lighting challenge blog. There'll be a poll in our community on orkut and the entry with the highest number of votes will win "The Lighting Master Crown"

There is an active discussion thread at our community on orkut where you can post your images and get constructive feedback.

A review of the Rules & Guidelines:
  • It is imperative that you use "The Mental Ray Renderer". You can use any 3d application, but the renderer should be Mental Ray.

  • The Challenge will end on 05/08/08. Please send us your final entries before the end date. The scenes will still be available after that date as an on-going challenge for people who wish to try this as a lighting and rendering excercise.

  • It is necessary for all the participants to confirm their participation by sending us a mail at lightingchallenge@gmail.com. This should be done 10 days before the challenge ends, i.e, 25/07/08. All members of the mental ray community can join this challenge.

    The subject of the mail should read "Registration - The Mental Ray Lighting Challenge". Your email should also contain these details ->
    Name:
    Orkut Profile id(url):
    3d Application(s) you will use(including the version):

    Note: There are no restrictions to the applications you use. We need the data so we can provide you with the right files for you to light. The email you register with should be genuine and will be used by us for future correspondence. This will be one time registration.

  • Entries without registration will not be eligible for the initial gallery selection & voting.

  • The scene file(s) you used for the challenge should be submitted (only) upon request.

  • The final entries will be displayed here on the lighting challenge blog and the winning entry will have "The Lighting Master Crown" (Virtual) right before their entry. The winner will be decided through a poll in the community.

  • Do not post or create new threads for any suggestion, feedback, comment or query, just mail us at lightingchallenge@gmail.com with the relevant subject.

  • With respect to any disputes, the owners and moderators of the community shall have the final say in the respective matter.

So, what are you waiting for? "Let's get Lighting!" :)
